The future of navigation has arrived!
01 December 2009 saw the global launch of Admiralty e-Navigator in Shanghai, China. At a prestigious event held at the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, 200 guests from shipping companies around the world were given the first view of how the UKHO is changing maritime navigation.

Melissa Hyak, the news anchor from Channel News Asia who hosted the International ECDIS Conference in Singapore in October, was compere for the evening. She kicked off the proceedings by introducing Rear Admiral Ian Moncrieff, the national hydrographer and deputy chief executive (Hydrography), and Michael Cauter, Chief Operating Officer at the UKHO. Michael gave an overview of the rapidly changing commercial and compliance environment mariners and shipping companies are facing. They discussed the move from paper to digital navigation, and talked about the UKHO's focus on bringing innovation to maritime navigation and its continued dedication to delivering the highest quality data for safe and compliant navigation.

Then it was time for Mike Robinson, Chief Executive of UKHO, to take to the stage to officially launch Admiralty e-Navigator. He spoke of the UKHO's vision for the future of navigation, and how e-Navigator is the basis of the UKHO's plans to bring that vision to life. In addition to giving the audience an overview of e-Navigator's current features, Mike also showed how e-Navigator will continue to develop as more rich data is made available through the product, transforming how ship and shore-based teams work together to plan and execute safe, compliant and efficient voyages.

At the reception after the presentation, the guests discussed e-Navigator in more detail with the UKHO team in Shanghai. Feedback from all was incredibly positive, and it looks like Admiralty e-Navigator has got off to a great start!
